Bill Power was born in Prince Rupert BC and grew up in Dartmouth NS. He received his postsecondary education at Dalhousie University in Halifax: BSc(Hons) (1988) and PhD (1992) in Chemistry. After two years as a NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University, he came to UW in 1993 as an Assistant Professor in Chemistry, and was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 1998. His service to UW has included membership on numerous departmental, faculty and university committees, UW’s Senate and the Board of Directors of the Faculty Association of UW. He also serves as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and the Director of the new UW Undergraduate Research Internship Program. He has received a Premier’s Research Excellence Award, two Department of Chemistry teaching awards, and was a founding member of the Institute for Quantum Computing. His research interests include nuclear magnetic resonance and its applications to the study of materials.
