Hamed was born in Tehran, Iran and did his BSc. in Electrical Engineering (Major in Telecommunications) at K. N. Toosi University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. He received his MSc. in Electrical Engineering (Major in Electromagnetic Fields & Waves) from AmirKabir University of Technology with honors. In 1998, he joined the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, at the University of Waterloo and obtained his PhD with distinction on December 2001. His PhD thesis investigated the optical-microwave interaction in superconducting transmission lines for optoelectronic applications. After his Ph.D. he spent 10 months as a postdoctoral fellow in ECE Dept., focusing on superconducting single photon detectors and THz photonic devices. Hamed is now an Assistant Professor at Electrical & Computer Engineering Dept., cross-appointed with the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC). He is setting up an integrated quantum optoelectronic lab for characterization of superconducting and photonic quantum devices, especially superconducting single-photon detector at IR range.
